Food is an essential part of culture. In 1863, the German philosopher and anthropologist Ludwig Andreas Feuerbach wrote, “Der Mensch ist, was er ißt” or “Man is what he eats”.

German cuisine varies widely across the country. Regional cuisines are sometimes shared with or influenced by the cooking of neighboring lands. German restaurants are highly regarded: according to a recent article in Forbes, Germany came in fourth place in a list of nations with the most 3-Star rated Michelin restaurants.
